Smart Grid RoadShow
November 3rd & 4th, 2009
The Inner Harbor Marriott at Camden Yards | Baltimore, Maryland USA

Featuring 28 sessions in four tracks (Automation/IT, Operations, Infrastructure & Compliance), this 2-day gathering is a high quality – high focus event targeting industry professionals from the user, supplier and consulting community seeking education and insights into the business, technological and financial dimensions of the rapidly evolving transformation to a Smart Grid model. This is a “must-attend” event for anyone facing the mounting challenges presented by an aging workforce, declining infrastructure and new security, reliability and other dimensions combined with Smart Grid transformation and unprecedented "Stimulus" funding opportunities.

Smart Grid Process

If you’re in a quandary about where to begin the Smart Grid process, this is the conference for you! Starting with the opening keynote by Mark D. Case, Senior Vice President-Strategy & Regulatory Affairs for host utility Baltimore Gas & Electric, who will talk about Smart Grid: Powering Our Future, Delivering Value to Consumers. You’ll personally experience the leading edge of this new era in electric power generation, transmission and distribution. And on Wednesday morning you’ll hear Dr. Mani Vadari, Vice President of Energy Infrastructure at Battelle Laboratories (Columbus, Ohio), talk about Demand Response Innovations in Solving Utility Challenges.

Two Luncheon Briefings

Two unique luncheon briefings will provide expert insights regarding Smart Grid initiatives and grid transformation in the 21st century. The first (on Tuesday) facilitated by UtiliPoint International is titled, Lessons Learned from Smart Grid Initiatives, a panel featuring George W. Arnold, National Coordinator for Smart Grid Interoperability, NIST; Charles Dickerson, VP, Customer Care (PEPCO); Todd Arnold, Senior VP, Smart Grid and Customer Systems (Duke Energy); and other panelists to be announced soon.

Building on that foundation, the Wednesday luncheon topic is Pushing the Smart Grid Envelope: The Intertwined Roles of Technology and Public Policy in Grid Transformation, bringing together a slate of experts from a cross section of the electric utility industry's leading professional organizations and associations, such as the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), American Public Power Association (APPA), National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (NRECA) and the Canadian Electrical Association (CEA).

Security Plenary Session

The Closing Plenary Session on Wednesday, November 4th (open to all SGRS attendees) will focus on security challenges and the latest solutions for improving physical and cyber security, as discussed by several leading security experts. A reprise of our Security Panel Session at the first SGRS event in Toronto on October 7, 2008), this interactive panel discussion features top notch security professionals engaged in all facets of security technology, best practices and remediation inititives -- discussed and debated in depth from both user and supplier perspectives. Questions and topics from attendees are solicited and encouraged in advance of the session but will also be welcomed during the course of the discussion. Come prepared to share what's on your mind...

Smart Grid Focus

No other conference offers a sharper focus, more comprehensive information or a more diverse set of technologies focused squarely on Smart Grid Initiatives. What’s more, you’ll appreciate the opportunity to learn and network with your peers in comfortable, intimate surroundings without the hassles of big conference logistics. Conveniently located in downtown Baltimore, the conference hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants, shopping and other points of interest without the need to rent a car. And, your registration fee includes a continental breakfast and full lunch for both days plus a complimentary networking reception on Tuesday evening.

AMI/MDM* Co-located Bonus Event

The Smart Grid RoadShow closes on Wednesday afternoon, but the value doesn't end there. By staying for UtiliPoint® International's AMI/MDM Fall 2009 Workshop on Thursday, you'll not only get a $100 discount on your SGRS Conference registration, but you'll also enjoy a full day of Advanced Metering Infrastructure & Meter Data Management technologies, applications, best practices, and more! This immersive workshop -- now in its third year -- has become a mecca for AMI/MDM professionals, so come and learn from the folks leading the charge when it comes to AMI/MDM initiatives.

* In order to better accommodate as many Smart Grid RoadShow and AMI/MDM Workshop attendees as possible, the AMI/MDM event has been moved to the Hyatt Hotel -- only a short distance from the Inner Harbor Marriott, where the SGRS is being held. Both hotels have reserved a block of rooms for their respective events, so be sure to mention "Smart Grid RoadShow" for the special Marriott rate and "AMI/MDM Workshop" for the special Hyatt rate. Also, it is strongly recommended that you make your reservations as early as possible since we expect these discounted rooms to sell out quickly. The Hyatt is about seven blocks from the Marriott along Baltimore's scenic Inner Harbor -- a short walk or quick cab ride, depending on weather conditions and personal preferences. Also, the discounted SGRS registration fee for AMI/MDM Workshop attendees still applies and must be noted on your SGRS registration form.

We look forward to seeing you in Baltimore!
