Role Summary/Purpose

The Managing Director - Smart Grid COE will be the leader of our new Smart Grid COE, within the EA&SE organization, working across several other teams and cross functionally within GE Energy.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Partner with internal teams and external constituents to create the overall organization strategy for new Smart Grid COE, including designing and building the team and creating the business model
  • Lead new Smart Grid consulting COE globally and rapidly grow its breadth and depth
  • Actively participate in thought leadership activities on behalf of the Smart Grid COE, including playing leading roles in various industry sponsored activities, focused on advancing GE’s leadership position in Smart Grid technologies while developing strong network with various stakeholders
  • Keep track of industry trends and developments to ensure Smart Grid COE maintains external focus and leadership position
  • Partner with clients looking to develop Smart Grid technology master plans and multi-generation projects
  • Partner with internal stakeholders, as needed
  • Stay current on strategic directions of electric utilities and changes in the power industry, including stakeholder goals and business models, Smart Grid technology advancements, evolving industry standards, and business cases for new technologies
  • Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are critical

 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Master’s degree in electrical, or electric power / power systems engineering
  • 20 or more years leadership experience in the power systems industry, including 10 or more years of consulting experience in the power / electric utility industry
  • 5 or more years experience managing direct reports and leading virtual organizations of 15 or more people
  • Minimum 1 year experience in building new organizations and developing business models in the power industry
  • Minimum 1 year experience with power transmission and distribution equipment (meters, breakers, transformers) and automation equipment (diagnostics and controls) ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work overtime as needed

Desired Characteristics

  • Knowledge and understanding of entire spectrum of Smart Grid technologies, equipment, and controls
  • MBA preferred
  • Professional Engineer license desirable
  • Track record of thought leadership in power industry, including professional society memberships, record of publications and public speaking engagements
  • IEEE active membership, preferably Senior Member or Fellow
  • CIGRE active membership
  • Strong project management and technical writing skills
  • Attention to details and strong analytical and problem solving skills to resolve difficult technical issues
  • Desire and ability to work in a fun and fast paced, consulting oriented, team environment
  • EEDP or OMLP grad, and Six Sigma Green Belt or higher certification (internal GE only)
  • Strong leadership skills and influencing skills; ability to motivate, energize, and engage employees at all levels within the organization
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. ability to effectively communicate with all levels of GE and customer staff)Why join one great company when you can join many?
