Smart Grid Meter Technology Manager #4105

Puget Sound Energy (PSE), the largest energy utility in Washington, is seeking applicants to fill the position of Smart Grid Meter Technology Manager. The Smart Grid Meter Technology Manager will be the key point of contact for all technical matters regarding implementation, validation, and deployment of Smart Grid metering and metering infrastructure solutions. This role will create Smart Grid solutions that ensure meters and network interoperability as well as ensure customer requirements are met. This integrated, scalable solution will let PSE efficiently plan, design, operate and evolve a reliable and efficient smart electric grid for the benefit of our customers and the environment.

This person will manage the technical staff responsible for the company’s meter assets and meter reading processes. They will be accountable for the accuracy of the physical meters, and overseeing the Automated Meter Reading contractors. They will facilitate the configuration, enhancements and maintenance of the meter equipment and systems to ensure that solutions are aligned with customer expectations and PSE’s business initiatives. In addition, they will define, estimate, write, defend, plan and lead projects. They will review the impact of system changes, designs, and documentation to ensure compliance with WAC and other regulatory and company standards. They will also manage Meter Engineering group operations to ensure the meter assets are properly installed and accurate and manage the upgrade of PSE’s AMR system from one way to two way automated metering.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Provides employees with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and builds effective teams:

o Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve employee, business and customer results.

· Manages the installation, upgrades, operation and maintenance of the company’s meter infrastructure. Accountable and responsible for:

o Leads design and development of new metering systems.

o Establishes and enforces processes and procedures that support and comply with Federal, State, and industry regulations.

o Consistently applies IT methodology in the delivery and management of software projects and systems.

o Provides strong customer service focus.

o Applies analytical, organizational, software design principles to the development and integration of computer and metering systems.

o Selection and certification of metering devices.

o Develops, maintains, and exercises disaster recovery plans.

· Responsible for day to day management of AMR vendor relationship.

· Ensures the accuracy of the company’s metering assets.

· Designs system integrations.

· Aligns and plans long term product enhancements and changes with key vendors

· Establishes meter hardware/software design protocols with AMR systems.

· Collaborates with architects and others to share best practices and ensures consistent Smart Grid project execution methodology.

· Leads compliance efforts with Federal and State agencies.

· Solves complex business problems through use of technology.

· Oversees and accountable for project delivery.

· Responsible for developing and managing department budget while meeting company and departmental goals.

· Works collaboratively with the other IT Managers to create a productive work environment.

· Promotes a positive culture through empowerment, accountability, creativity, and trust with consideration given to the Great Places To Work philosophy.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

· Participates in cross-functional teams in both leadership and participant roles to develop appropriate solutions for PSE needs.

· Oversees and direct customer service activities ensuring all commitments are met.

· Works with other departments in implementing new business requirements as needed. Resolves issues to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.

· Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering and three years experience leading and managing teams of 5 or more within an IT or engineering environment and/or an equivalent combination of educations and/or work experience in a related field.

· 7 Years of progressively advanced experience in an engineering environment.

· 5 or more years experience with Utility Metering and Meter Engineering, and automated meter reading technologies.

· Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and analyze strategic changes within organizations.

· Demonstrated ability to perform complex IT Analysis/Programming analysis and designs across multiple information systems.

· Demonstrated proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and related office software.

· Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and influence through expertise and relationship building.

· Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.

· Strong communication skills (written, reading comprehension, listening, verbal, presentation).

· Proven ability to manage in a constantly changing environment with the ability to multi-task and deal with ambiguity.

· Experience in successfully managing multiple & complex projects involving integration between multiple enterprise software products.

· Extensive knowledge of the company’s core business functions is essential.

· Excellent organizational skills and problem solving ability.

· Working knowledge of budgeting and planning processes.

· Strong customer service and people skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· BA/BS or advanced degree in engineering, computer science, Information Technology

· Minimum 2 years experience with Smart Grid-related technology

· Knowledge and solid understanding of current and emerging Smart Grid standards (IEC 61970, 61968, 61950, NIS, NERC-CIP, etc.)

· Experience in the integration of large scale T&D systems (EMS, DMS, OMS, SA, DA, MMS, AMI, GIS, etc.)

· Experience working effectively with vendors.
